How exactly does America have more "freedom" than Europe?

There are different kinds of freedom. We Americans seem to beless into the kind you're describng, and more into freedom of property. You folks have an open society, but a big government, while we have an uptight society but a small government (still it seems to me like we invent ways to spend money on defense). I myself would prefer the european system, but lets not make it a simple as "you're more free."
